Anatomy of the Pelvic Floor
The pelvic floor muscles are comprised of the coccygeus and levator ani muscles. These muscles straddle the
pelvis
and form a layer of protection for the organs within the pelvic region. The pelvic floor muscles are used during everyday functions such as sneezing, laughing, and coughing. It is also important to note that these muscles are involved in assisting in the increase of intra-abdominal pressure.
