Fibula Anatomy
Overview
The fibula lies on the outside edge of the lower leg
and is paired with the
tibia
. These two bones in the lower leg work in conjunction and form a bracket-type arrangement around the talus, holding it firm within the
ankle joint
. The upper end of the fibula sits below the
knee joint
, while the lower end articulates with the tibia and the talus. The fibula does not play a major role in the weight bearing process like the tibia.
