Anatomy of the Larynx
The larynx lies in the front section of the neck, just below the hyoid bone and in front of the laryngopharynx. The larynx is the portion of the
throat
that is known to many as the “voice box”. This voice box is comprised of nine cartilages that are held together by ligaments, which are held in place and controlled by skeletal muscles. These cartilages serve to carry air from the
pharynx
to the
trachea
, and to produce a source of air vibration for the voice.
