Pharynx Anatomy

Anatomy of the Pharynx
The pharynx is an elongated tube that offers a passageway for both air and food.  The pharynx is the cavity that connects the nose, mouth, and larynx, and is consequently divided up into three regions that are surrounded by muscle.  This is one of the most important regions of the throat, which consists of different anatomical structures used for breathing, speech, and swallowing.  While swallowing, the muscles of the pharynx lift the larynx and close the epiglottis, to prevent food from entering the airways.
