Femur Anatomy

Anatomy of the Femur
The femur is best known for being the longest and strongest bone in the human body.  The design of the femur includes a rounded head, a long neck and two enlargements, call trochanters, which provide a point of attachment for the strong muscles of the upper leg.  Below these features is the long cylindrical shaft of the femur, and at the lower end are the two condyles.  These condyles articulate with the tibia and the patella.
