Overview
Surgery to repair an
ACL Tear
is one of the most commonly performed knee surgeries by orthopedics for all sports. During this procedure the surgeon will either take an arthroscopic or open surgery approach depending on the extent of the injury. During an ACL surgery the doctor will use a graft to replace the torn ligament. There are two types of grafts that are commonly used: Autograph which is the most commonly used where the surgeon cuts out a portion of the tendon from your own body and Allograph which is used when they used the tendon from a cadaver or other donor. The goal of either of these procedures is to repair the damaged ligament or replace it with a graft from another part of the body. In most cases the surgeon will be able to take a minimally invasive approach by utilizing a
knee arthroscopy
. It is important to seek the proper medical attention and receive the correct diagnosis so that you will be able to get on a treatment plan that will get you on the road to recovery as soon as possible.
