Meniscus Repair
Overview
A
torn meniscus
is one of the most commonly seen injuries in the knee as well as throughout the entire body. The meniscus is a curved shape piece of cartilage that helps to provide cushion in the knee while also stabilizing the
knee
during activity. There are actually two meniscus located in the knee, one on the inner portion and the other on the outer portion of the knee. The menisci help to stabilize the knee while doing something as minimal as walking down the street to bursting full speed in a
football
game. In most cases this injury is suffered when the knee is twisted quickly while the
foot
is planted on the ground. In most cases the surgeon will be able to take a minimally invasive approach by utilizing a
knee arthroscopy
to repair the torn meniscus.
