Pectoral Tendon Repair
Overview
The
pectoral
is the large muscle that lies in front of the chest wall. This muscle is made up of the pectoralis major and pectoralis minor, which both help provide protection for one of the most vital organs in the body, the
heart
. Although the injury is rare, there are cases where an individual may suffer from a
ruptured pectoral tendon
and surgical intervention will be required to repair the injury. The surgeon will typically wait a few weeks following the injury to perform the operation to let the swelling reduce and minimize any muscle atrophy that may take place. The primary objective of this open procedure is to reattach the tendon to the head of the
humerus
with screws.
